A Few of My Favorite Things… 2018

One of my favorite things about weekends spent with my girlfriends is the sharing!  Curling up in pajamas and a glass of wine (or a Dr Pepper…don’t judge), sharing our hearts, beauty finds, and life hacks with each other.  Consider this post a Girlfriend Getaway, grab your movement clothes, snuggle up and get cozy.

For shopping and perusing purposes, click on the title of each item to be directed to the link of the item mentioned!  This is not a sponsored post, although all of the links to Amazon WILL give back to my favorite local animal charity, Fuzzy Friends.

The From Scratch Chick Products

My friend, Candice got me hooked on these products.  They are all natural and made with essential oils. Their Vapor Rub is a household must.  Made with just beeswax, olive oil, and coconut oil. They add peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils…and before you know it, you can breathe again.  The All Purpose Salve could possibly create World Peace.  Or at least soothe it.  It is silky, moisturizing, healing, and repairing. Made with beeswax, coconut oil, and olive oil, plus essential oils known for their anti-bacterial and healing properties.  The Lip Balm is in my car at all times, so if you want to try it…find me around town, just ask first.  Otherwise, it’ll just be awkward.  😉

Flower Diffuser

As a boy mom, I love anything that makes my house smell good.  These flower diffusers are my FAVORITE!  If you are local, they have a FULL stock at Hinge!  They last forever, and make any room smell delightful.  I have the Linen one (pictured above) in my closet, The Bella Freesia in the powder room, and now they have gorgeous HOLIDAY scents!  Hinge has a full stock of the Holiday scents, candles, car scents, and room sprays.  In case you are not local, you can find my favorite here.  (Our family favorite is the Spruce, there is also a Cinnamon scent.)  Run by Hinge and sniff them all, they make great gifts as well!

Supergoop!

I randomly ran across a podcast a few months ago with the creator of Supergoop, it was a sunshine miracle that I even listened.  Sunscreen is always something I kinda did.  My skin care has sunscreen in it, so that was good enough for me.  If we were going to be out on the boat all day, I would spray some on my shoulders and chest, because “Who wants old lady shoulders?”, and that was the extent of my sunscreen.  When I listened to her podcast (linked below), I had a better understanding of the science behind SAFE sunscreen.  I’m an addict now, and chances are, if you spent any time with me this summer, I sprayed you down as you walked by.

My favorites are the Sunscreen Oil, Glow Stick, Defense Refresh Setting Mist (to update your sunscreen throughout the day without messing up your makeup…genius!) and the Setting Powder.   My oldest has always fought me on sunscreen, this summer he lifeguarded and used the Sunscreen Oil .  For the first time in his life, he never burned once, but was still golden brown when he turned in his whistle at the end of the summer!

The links I added were to Sephora since most people want to rack up points.  However, you can go to www.supergoop.com, sign up with your email for 15% off your first order.

J Crew Women’s Lodge Moccasins

My teeny-tiny, cowgirl friend, Shannon, got me these for my 40th birthday.  As I opened them she said, “I know they are not the cutest, but they are super comfortable – you’ll love them.”  She was right.  I love them and chances are…if you see me driving boys to school early in the morning, I am wearing them.  They are true to size (I normally wear a 6.5 or 7 shoe, and the 7 in these are perfect.) and also come in a Christmas plaid print that I’d love to have, but I’m trying to become a minimalist.  😉

100PercentBeads

When we were in Los Angeles this summer, I had to go into Kyle Richards (from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) boutique.  It was filled with beautiful things, and I thought about donating a kidney to purchase a shirt, but ultimately decided against it.  I need them both for my Dr Pepper habit.  I did however purchase a bracelet for a friend.  When I got home and wrapped it, I loved it so much that I searched the creator and designer.  I contacted her and had her design some personal gifts for friends.  She has beautiful taste, is affordable, and is super easy to communicate with!   Find her website above, or here at 100PercentBeads Instagram.

Jade Roller for Gua Sha Facial

My esthetician is a Master Magician.  I’ve always appreciated her holistic approach to skin care and maintenance. So when she introduced Gua Sha facials into her fold of talents, I signed up for one.  It was so different from any treatment that I have ever had.  The Gua Sha facial moves energy to break up stagnation that can be the root cause of inflammation and many problematic skin conditions. Benefits include; Sculpting, lifting, de-puffing, hydrating, tension soothing, relaxing, and my favorite – it releases stress and built up of emotions stored in your face muscles.  If that is too “woo-woo” for you, just try it and report back to me.

As much as I love you all, I still hesitate to share my gal’s info – what if you take all my appointments?! However, in honor of the Holiday giving spirit… Brandy’s Instagram page has all her info.  She is exclusive to her current clients (or guest as she calls us), and is booked up until February, but you could get on her cancellation list, or book for after the holidays.

She did introduce me to Britta Beauty, who has a tutorial instagram page if you are interested in learning more about the Gua Sha at-home technique.

 By Lilla Hairties

I am the friend that never remembers to wear an extra hair tie on my wrist.  I always end up needing one at a football game and once again being saved by my friend Jen’s hair tie.  She is always prepared, hair ties on her wrist, bug spray in her Mary Poppins bag of goodies.  Then, I found these By Lilla hair ties that double as a cute bracelet!  I never forget to put on jewelry, just necessities.  I wear one of these daily, whether I need a ponytail or not.  If you are local, you can find these babies at Roots Boutique.  They come in so many different colors, and the jewels on them surprisingly don’t pull my hair out.  Super cool.

Mermaid Pillows

Let me just throw a couple of things out here.  First, I am not a sequin gal, but I love these pillows…how are they so soothing?!  Secondly, if I don’t get one of these for Christmas with Ryder, Remy, Bunny, Honey, and Auzzie’s face on it – then does anyone really know me at all?  Although, my family refuses to let me purchase a DNA kit for Ryder, so I doubt they will let me get a sequin pillow.  Whatever.

BAREMINERALS Oil Obsessed Total Cleansing Oil

This will take the whole day off your face.  I always just washed my face and thought that was good enough to take my makeup off AND clean it.  Now, I realize it was really just removing my makeup, but not really cleansing my face.  My friend Kat got me hooked on this.  Now, I use 3-4 pumps on dry skin to remove all my makeup (eyes too), and then use my cleanser to actually clean.  Look at me, growing up right before your eyes.

Trendsend

I found the EVEREVE website this year.  It’s a fun store that carries a lot of my favorite brands.  Trendsend is their subscription box put together by an EVEREVE stylist.  You decide how often you receive a Trendsend, your price range, and more.  There is NO stylist fee or shipping fee, and you only pay for the clothing you keep!  They will send a bag to return the clothing you don’t wish to purchase.  Perfect for all the people who don’t want to get out of pjs and go shop.  You know who you are.

The Road Back to You

I’m positive that I have every single book written on the Enneagram, yet this is the only one I’ve truly loved, understood, and finished.  It’s an fun, easy read and SUPER easy to comprehend.  If you are new to the Enneagram, it is an ancient personality type system with an uncanny accuracy in describing how human beings are wired, both positively and negatively. Funny and filled with stories, this book allows you to understand more about each of the Enneagram types, keeping you turning the pages long after you have read the chapter about yourself.  **The rest of my favorite books of 2018 will be on a future blog post.

Matisse Berlin Leopard Mules

I was NOT going to get on the mule bandwagon this time around.  Refused.  I love my heels.  Then I saw some cute Leopard ones from Tin Rose Boutique and fell in love. (They have limited sizes left in Leopard and Snakeskin, but I searched for you and linked them here and here!)  These are super comfy, I wore them all over Coronado Island for a week, through airports, etc and never had achy feet.  I have a super high arch, so the second day I wore them, the top of my foot was a little sore from the band that goes across.  Since then, they have broken in nicely and are new favorites.

Dr. Teal’s  Epsom Salt & Essential Oils Pink Himalayan Mineral Soak

I love a good epsom salt bath.  And bubble bath.  And bath bombs.  This Pink Himalayan scent is TOO DIE for.  It has bergamot and sweet orange essential oils to help provide relief from stress, help your muscles relax, and make you forget about your to-do list for at least 20 minutes.  My friend and chiropractor, Jessica, instructed me years ago to only cook with Pink Himalayan salt, I don’t remember why – I usually just try to do at least half of what she tells me to do.  Can you imagine how healthy I feel now that I cook AND bathe in it?!  I’m basically a health nut.

Poshmark

I am not a hunter.  But I will hunt down fashion like a camo clothed trophy hunter.  If you haven’t used or heard of Poshmark, it is a website/app used to buy and sell clothing, shoes, and jewelry.  I have a closet full of stuff that needs to be added and sold from my personal Poshmark closet, perhaps I’ll have time soon.  If you see some cute boots on Pinterest that are sold out…all I’m saying is head to Poshmark.  May the odds be ever in your favor.

Urban Decay Setting Spray

My skin is on the oily/combination side.  For this reason, I chose a setting spray over a makeup primer.  I don’t need anything else on my face in between my daytime sunscreen moisturizer and makeup.  I’ll spritz this baby on my face to set my makeup and keep it in place.  I’ve also used the Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray and love it too.

MoroccanOil Root Boost

I don’t fix my hair daily.  Weird right?  With this root boost, I don’t really need to. I use it when I blow dry my hair with my favorite blow dryer (featured in last years Favorite Things), style it, sleep in a silk scrunchie from the 1990’s…take it down the next morning and fluff if it’s curly or brush if it’s straight.  I like easy.  Maybe just don’t photograph me from the back…m’kay?

Rodan and Fields Lash Boost

There is an outtake in our family pictures this year that Mason is frowning at me as he ask, “Are those your real lashes?!”   Yes son, yes they are.  I was gifted this little gem earlier in the year and love it. (Thank you Elsa!) It seems to have lasted me forever.  I use it just a couple of times a week now for the new growth.  Also, I love their Hydrating Serum!  Love. It.  Because I have several friends who are Rodan and Fields Consultants, I didn’t link a website.  If you don’t have a Rodan and Fields consultant, message me and I’ll send you a link.

Boomf Bomb, the Exploding Card

I love sending fun mail.  This website has the cutest ideas to send FUN to a loved one.  The one pictured is my favorite, when opened, out explodes confetti and a cute photo cube that you upload photos for.  You can also add a greeting.  There is also a huge butterfly card that floats/flys out of the envelope when opened!  Make someone (preferably someone who doesn’t hate fun.) smile today when they check their mailbox.

Noonday Collection

Noonday Collection is a fair trade company who partner with Artisan businesses around the globe, empowering them to grow sustainably and creating dignified jobs for people who need them.  Their jewelry is beautiful and unique, and I enjoy shopping fair trade when I get the chance.  Check out their beautiful jewelry and bags, they make gorgeous gifts!  Or contact Victoria to book a show to get some free! (That is where my collection came from…for free!)  These are my current favs…and these.  And these.

The Good Place

I am new to The Good Place, but got here as soon as I could.  I forking love it.  It’s a great, light hearted show that also makes me think.  Am I doing good work for the right reasons?  Or just because I want to be perceived as kind and nice?  The show makes me laugh and pause to make sure my motivation behind an act is coming from the right place.  The good one. 🙂

Lastly, my most important favorite thing this year and every other year are my people who know the correct way to put toilet paper on the roll.

Shout out to you people.

Love & Light to All,

Brooke
