Margarita & Salsa…the love language of my people.

Waco’s Margarita and Salsa Festival falls around the same time every August, which I feel is a gracious birthday present to me.  It’s like the sweet people in charge at Extraco Events Center pulled together and said, “Let’s reward these tired parents with a party for getting their kids through summer AND the back to school chaos.”  They always pull a rabbit out of a hat by booking amazing talent, that never disappoints. Like this year with Gary Allan, which guarantees my location on August 25th.

In case Waco’s recent popularity hasn’t convinced you to uproot your family and move here, or the beauty of having two rivers and a lake inside our city limits, let me add to the appeal with three words – Margarita, Salsa, and Music.  Boom.

There are a lot of fundraisers and events here in Central Texas, but this is one of my favorites.  It’s laid back, carefree, and FUN!  We usually purchase tickets for the VIP section, which is in a covered area with fans, with food and margaritas galore. (Beer is available for the non-tequila peeps.) There is also General Admission for the concert and festivities as well.

Don’t let an outdoor event in Texas scare you away.  It’s hotter than a box of devils* in our cars and houses right now as well, so have some fun with it!  Just dress accordingly like these outfit ideas/inspiration for the Margarita & Salsa Festival…

Just for fun, I dug out some vintage pics of the year I wore shorts and boots at Margarita & Salsa Festival, I loved it so much it became my uniform for the next month…

Then Stoney LaRue was dying to take a picture with us and who am I to break his heart? 😉

Listen, the hard work is done.  By now you have surely ordered your outfit or designed something from your own closet, so meet us there? The concert starts at 7 p.m. with John Baumann, followed by Aaron Watson and closing it out is Gary Allan.

**I have to give credit where credit is due. “Hotter than a box of devils” is one of my favorite sentences frequently said this summer by my best friend, Bambi.  I giggle every time she says it.
